Kiosko Hamburgueseria - Barcelona, España
There were a lot of things that I loved about this place and a lot of things that were mediocre. The selection of the burgers as well as the ingredients were top notch. The ingredients and options for the burgers were fairly unique and representative of Barcelona. You start by choosing your bun type. The default is classic white but for a small fee you can get whole wheat or brioche. The brioche was tempting but I wanted to size up the normal bun here. Next you get to choose your burger.
I went with the "Burgos" which came with a 200g (almost a half pound) lamb/suckling lamb patty, roasted red peppers, goat cheese, tomato, lettuce, and onion. The price was 8.80 euros with fries costing an extra 2 euros. After the exchange rate this works out to about $14 which is a lot but is to be expected with the dollar being so weak right now.
The lamb burger was only good as the lamb was overcooked. I think lamb burgers only work if they are juicy and succulent. The ingredients complemented the burger well but the real highlight of the meal were the house made sauces. The chili rojo went great with my fries (the fries were really good) and the agridulce ketchup was a very good addition to my burger. I was sad to see on their website that I missed out on their homemade fry seasoning that was a mixture of sweet and spicy pimentón, salt and pepper. I guess it was just missing from my table.
Overall, it was a good experience. My burger was full of great Spanish ingredients that just didn't come together in a way that I would have hoped. It was more of an interesting and unique experience than an amazing burger experience. I would not say that this place is a must if you are in Barcelona but if you are in the area (close to the water front and Gothic quarter) it may be a good experience for you. I have gone to a couple other spots around Barcelona that I will put up soon and I hope to be able to try at least one or two more burgers before I leave. Stay tuned or whatever the equivalent to tuning on a blog is.

This place's burgers looked really nice, I don't know if the lamburger was the best example of what Kiosko has to offer. In fact, I am usually disappointed with lamb cheeseburgers. I love lamb and I love burgers but nobody ever seems to make the combo work as well as I feel it could.
ReplyDeleteI really like their napkins. That logo would look good on a t-shirt. You're right about lamburgers, they are often overcooked and topped with the wrong ingredients. We should probably create a Burger Champions Lamburger soon
ReplyDeleteI must say, that Kiosko was by far the best burger I've ever had - medium rare, juicy and the sauces where heaven.
